Authorities apprehended Devon Wolfe, 19, in central Illinois on Friday, and he appeared in Cook County criminal court on Monday. Prosecutors allege that Wolfe, along with three other armed individuals, targeted Kendall and his group near the concert venue.
During the confrontation, Kendall was pistol-whipped and engaged in a physical altercation before being fatally shot. Wolfe was also wounded during the incident but was treated and released from the hospital. The prosecution presented evidence linking Wolfe to the crime, including an Instagram message he sent to a juvenile co-defendant inquiring about the location of a gun, and the discovery of a pink vape pen belonging to one of the victims, with Wolfe's DNA on it. While Wolfe's defense attorneys argued that he had no prior criminal record and was preparing for trade school, the judge ruled to keep him detained until his next court appearance scheduled for February 19th. Kendall's father, Thomas, expressed his grief and described his son as a smart and hardworking young man. Investigations revealed that the assailants were allegedly searching for victims near the concert venue, exploiting the large crowd. Prosecutors painted a picture of Wolfe and his accomplices actively looking for potential targets that night. The lack of recovered weapons at the scene, despite several shell casings from different guns being found, added another layer of complexity to the investigation.
