According to authorities, the suspect, 26-year-old Edgar Ismalej-Gomez, of Stamford, is a convicted felon with a history of child abuse.
Stamford police have not released many details of the investigation or the circumstances of the child's death.
Ismalej-Gomez is currently being held on $3 million bail for an alleged parole violation, but more charges are expected to be filed. Authorities said in court that he was holding his girlfriend hostage for a few days and at some point, he took the child's body and buried him in Cummings Park.Police said Ismalej-Gomez was also arrested last August for breaking the arm of a 6-month-old child.
As part of a plea deal in that case, he served 60 days in prison and was given three years probation.
