Man arrested in connection to beating of Oakland restaurateur and 49ers fan outside SoFi Stadium
New details have emerged about the altercation outside Sunday’s NFC Championship Game that left Bay Area restaurateur and 49ers fan Daniel Luna in a medically induced coma, with authorities in Southern California announcing they arrested a suspect in connection with the alleged assault.
He was taken by paramedics to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he underwent surgery and was placed into a medically induced coma due to bleeding and intracranial swelling. Using the video footage, detectives traced a vehicle believed to be connected to the suspect and reached out to the vehicle’s owner. Authorities were later contacted by the suspect, who was at his workplace in Montebello, and said he voluntarily went with police once they arrived at his location and placed him under arrest.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will be providing around 250 personnel from the emergency operations bureau for security, alongside Inglewood police, during the game. The Los Angeles Police Department said they will be increasing patrols around venues, including bars near L.A. Live, that will be showing the Super Bowl game, but aren’t involved in the security of the stadium itself.
