A 38-year-old man from Guatemala, Luis Lopez-Martinez, has been arrested in Alabama after allegedly being caught sexually abusing a child. Authorities responded to a call from the child's family who had detained the suspect. During questioning, Lopez-Martinez allegedly confessed to the crime. He is currently facing charges of sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old and is being held on a $250,000 bond. Authorities have placed an immigration detainer on Lopez-Martinez.
A man in Alabama was arrested after authorities allege he was caught sexually abusing a child. Deputies responded to a call on January 19th and discovered the child's family had detained the suspect when they allegedly caught him in the act. The suspect was identified as Luis Lopez-Martinez, 38, of Guatemala . Authorities initially believed his name was Mario Francisco Martin.
During questioning, Lopez-Martinez allegedly confessed to sexually abusing the child, telling an investigator, “It is what it is.” The suspect is currently being held on a $250,000 bond and faces a charge of sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old. Authorities also said that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had placed an immigration detainer on Lopez-Martinez. It is unclear whether he has entered a plea or retained an attorney to speak on his behalf. Sheriff Joshua McLaughlin released a statement thanking the deputies involved in the case, saying, 'I would like to thank Deputy Fontenot and Investigator Wilson for their dedication and tireless efforts in seeking justice for this innocent child,” Sheriff Joshua McLaughlin said in the statement. “Their efforts reinforce our commitment to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community and ensuring that justice is served.'
