Michael Thomas Lewis, 55, was arrested in Indianapolis for allegedly sending threatening messages and stalking Caitlin Clark, a player for the Indiana Fever. A 55-year-old man, Michael Thomas Lewis , was arrested in Indianapolis on Sunday for allegedly threatening and stalking Indiana Fever player Caitlin Clark . Prosecutors claim Lewis sent a series of vulgar, sexually charged messages to Clark via X, and then traveled to Indianapolis , where Clark resides.
Clark, who stated that Lewis was a complete stranger, told authorities she had been fearful since learning of the messages and altered her public appearances and movement patterns out of concern for her safety upon hearing Lewis was in town. Lewis is accused of engaging in a “course of conduct involving repeated or continuing harassment of Caitlin Clark that would cause a reasonable person to feel terrorized.” Marion County prosecutor Ryan Mears emphasized in a statement that “no matter how prominent a figure you are, this case shows that online harassment can quickly escalate to actual threats of physical violence.” He commended Clark for her courage in coming forward, acknowledging the difficulty many women face in reporting such cases. Police initially located Lewis at the Indianapolis Public Library downtown and later at the Hilton Garden Hotel, where he claimed to be on vacation from Texas. When questioned about the threatening messages, Lewis stated he had been engaging in an “imaginary relationship” and insisted the interactions were a “fantasy type thing” and a “joke,” with “nothing to do with threatening” Clark. Despite police requests to cease posting about Clark on X, Lewis continued until Sunday night. Lewis appeared in court on Tuesday, where a preliminary plea of not guilty was entered, and he was appointed an attorney. Bond was set at $50,000, a no-contact order was issued, and Lewis was ordered to stay away from Gainbridge Fieldhouse and Hinkle Fieldhouse, where the Fever play and practice
