Jimmy Cone is charged with first-degree kidnapping and child abuse maltreat. He is in the Jefferson County Jail.
Deputies responded to the Marathon Gas Station at 7150 Aaron Aronov Drive to investigate a report of an attempted abduction of a child.
A preliminary investigation revealed the suspect attempted to forcefully take the child from their mother; however, the mother immediately gained control of her child, and the suspect left the store. Lt. Henry Irby with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department says this was a random attempted kidnapping.
The child was checked out by Fairfield Fire & Rescue. Deputies received a description of the suspect and quickly located him within two blocks of the scene and took him into custody.
