San Jose police arrested a man they believe planted a viable improvised explosive device near businesses last week, forcing evacuations and the bomb squad to dispose of the device.

At 10:06 a.m. Wednesday, police responded to a bomb threat at a business in the 1300 block of Ridder Park Drive. The suspect called police and said he planted an IED behind the business.Arriving officers found a suspicious device. The department's bomb squad determined the item to be an incomplete but viable IED.During the search, police found the suspect in his vehicle near Ruby Avenue and Aborn Road and took him into custody.

As a precaution, nearby businesses were evacuated while bomb squad officers cleared the vehicle, in which police found no other devices.The suspect was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of crimes related to the possession of a destructive device.
