Mansoor claimed to be a Detroit police officer with the 12th Precinct. When he went to his car to retrieve his ID upon request, he went to his vehicle, got into the car and drove away.
The incident took place around 11 p.m. Monday in Detroit, where 18-year-old Christian Katan Mansoor was driving a silver BMW accompanied with flashing red and blue lights. An off-duty police officer reported someone driving the suspect driving the silver BMW behind her who was attempting to conduct a traffic stop, according to reports.
Mansoor drove past the off-duty officer, before she decided to follow and confront him. When she identified herself as a real police officer and requested Mansoor’s identification, he claimed he was a Detroit police officer with the 12th Precinct and went to his car to retrieve his ID. But when the teen got back to his vehicle, he got into the car and drove away.
From there, a pursuit began, where the off-duty officer followed Mansoor to a trailer park, but eventually lost sight of his vehicle. Investigators soon caught up to Mansoor and the vehicle, only to find him switching license plates from his vehicle to a different BMW, according to reports. When Mansoor ran away, officials briefly chased after him and soon arrested him, according to reports.
“Individuals that pose as police officers present a threat to the public and undermine legitimate law enforcement,” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a statement. “Thankfully, this individual was caught and is being held accountable for this incident. But if you had a similar incident with this described automobile or this pictured individual, please contact us.”
