The Glasgow Times previously reported that TUI flight TOM778 was set to head from Glasgow Airport to Antalya, before making an unscheduled landing at Newcastle International Airport due to an alleged disruptive passenger on board. They added that enquiries are currently ongoing.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At 6.40pm on Friday , we were made aware of a flight from Glasgow to Antalya having been diverted to Newcastle International Airport following a report of a disturbance on board.“The flight landed safely and officers arrested a man – aged 29 – on suspicion of being drunk while on board an aircraft.
"Our goal is to ensure customers have the best possible flight experience, so this is not the way we wanted their holiday to start. "The safety of our customers and crew is our number one priority and any unacceptable behaviour will not be tolerated. The customer involved was offloaded from the aircraft and the flight was able to continue its journey.
"We have offered customers a gesture of goodwill in light of this disruption to the start of their holiday and to thank them for their patience and understanding."Readers’ comments: You are personally liable for the content of any comments you upload to this website, so please act responsibly.
