A 66-year-old man recently released on parole was arrested after authorities discovered a large quantity of homemade explosives in his residence,Steven Aldrich, who had been on parole for just six weeks following a, faces felony charges for possession of explosive components, according to Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis.

"These were homemade chemicals that he was making and manufacturing," Davis said. "What his plan was, I cannot say, but it was absolutely enough to destroy a home."APD Bomb Squad detonates explosives in South Austin home, second incident this month The investigation began Tuesday when a concerned citizen alerted authorities about potential bomb materials inside the residence. After obtaining search warrants, bomb technicians discovered what officials described as "a large quantity of homemade explosives and explosive precursors." After a 24-hour assessment involving chemists from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the FBI, authorities determined the materials were too volatile to move safely. Neighbors were evacuated before the controlled detonation at 5 p.m. Wednesday, which caused major damage to the suspect's home and minor damage to an adjacent property.as part of a six-year sentence for a prohibited weapons charge in Williamson County, officials said. His parole was set to end in approximately two weeks. "Our SWAT team and our EOD is familiar with him and his bomb-making shenanigans from the past," Davis said. According to online records, Aldrich remains in the Travis County Jail. He is being held on a $100,000 bond.
