A man is awaiting sentence after pleading guilty Friday to second-degree attempted murder in connection to a shooting last year on the city's northwest side.

Robert Johnson, now 45, unlawfully entered his 32-year-old ex-girlfriend's home on Willow Street, forcibly stole property and shot her several times May 25, 2025, according to the Monroe County District Attorney's Office. The victim was hospitalized with serious injuries but survived the incident. JohnsonThis defendant carried out a calculated and horrific act of domestic violence that very nearly ended a woman’s life and forever changed the lives of everyone involved,” Assistant District Attorney Courtney Kleiman said in a statement.
“The victim had already taken the difficult step of leaving an abusive relationship in an effort to protect herself and her family, yet she was still targeted with unimaginable violence. Despite suffering serious injuries, she survived and continues to live with the trauma caused by the defendant’s actions. I want to thank the Rochester Police Department, EMS personnel, and medical professionals whose efforts helped save her life.
Today's guilty plea ensures that Robert Johnson will be held accountable for the fear, pain, and lasting harm he inflicted. Johnson is set to be sentenced Aug. 14, prosecutors said. He is expected to receive between 17 and 19 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision.
