The three “caused” blank cash advance and balance transfer checks — which listed the unnamed credit card company’s customers as the checks’ payors — to be sent to residential addresses in New Jersey and elsewhere without the card holders’ knowledge, according to court papers. The fraud began to unfold in July 2018 when Sarfo-Adu messaged Yirenkyi a photograph of four blank checks with the account information of a customer of the credit card company.
A Customs and Border Protection agent seized Sarfo-Adu’s phone during an inspection when he arrived in the United States.
