Man accused of threatening Lorain firefighters, several dispatch centers, pleads not guilty by reason of insanityLORAIN, Ohio - A man accused of threatening Lorain firefighters and several area dispatch centers in March pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

Joseph Hengst, 32, of Lorain, was indicted on the charges of failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, obstructing official business, impersonation of a peace officer or private police officer and criminal trespass.According to Lorain County Sheriff Sergeant T. Furci, Hengst called 911 very early on March 2 and claimed to be the sheriff. Around 1:30 a.m.

After leaving there, Hengst allegedly pounded on the doors of the fire department and asked for water. Lorain fire officials were advised to stay inside and not allow anyone into the stations. At 4:18 .m., a passerby noticed Hengst passed out behind the wheel of a car at a red light at State Route 57 and Grafton Road and called deputies.During the pursuit, Hengst allegedly called dispatch and wanted the names of the deputies chasing him.On a call to the FBI”S Cleveland office he allegedly claimed to be the president and told the Lorain County dispatchers “be armed and ready, I’m on my way in.

Hengst was arrested later that day by Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers after he was located with the help of an emergency ping to his cell phone.
