One of the officers investigating at the home located a sweater that had a burn mark on one of the arms, the complaint said.

Adams, who has been arrested at least 11 times and served prison time, according to electronic court records, was arrested at the Hudson County jail ― apparently on felony charges stemming from a violent incidents in 2023 and last year.

The criminal complaint says Adams broke into the McAdoo Avenue home at approximately 5 p.m. and did not leave until approximately 6:45 p.m. when the victim escaped the home. Over the course of that time, Adams choked the victim at least three times with a clothesline, poured rum on her clothing and lit it on fire, and a one point threatened to kill her, the complaint said. One of the officers investigating at the home located a sweater that had a burn mark on one of the arms, the complaint said. Adams, who was a stranger to the victim, broke into the home through a dining room window, the complaint said, noting that the victim struck him with a coffee mug and caused him to bleed. The ordeal finally ended when the victim ran from her home and across the street. The assailant then left her residence, the complaint said. Adams had a criminal record that dates back to 1999. He was sentenced to four years in prison in 2003 for drug offenses and a few years later he was sentenced to five years in prison for robbery. More recently, he was charged for drugs, animal cruelty and simple assault in separate incidents in 2022; and assaulting a woman in late 2023 and October 2024. In the 2023 incident Adams was charged with striking a woman in the face, while last October police say Adams beat a woman nearly beyond recognition. In the October incident, the victim’s eyes were swollen shut and her entire face was swollen and covered in bruises and cuts, the criminal complaint said, in a series of assaults over three days.
