STARK COUNTY, Ohio - The man accused of stabbing a woman in a Jackson Township parking lot and leading Portage County Sheriff deputies on a chase, returned to court Wednesday for a hearing on changing his plea to not guilty by reason of insanity; however, the hearing was continued until Aug. 5.

According to Jackson Township police, the attack happened just before 8 a.m. Feb. 17 in the 5100 block of Dressler Rd. NW in the Belden Village area. Jackson Township Police Chief Mark Brink said the woman was taken to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital with wounds that are believed to be life-threatening. After obtaining information on the suspect, police said a statewide Be On The Look Out was broadcast.

Shortly after the broadcast, the Portage County Sheriff’s Office said deputies located Card’s vehicle near Route 225 and Tallmadge Road. The pursuit ended when Card crashed his vehicle into a telephone pole, a tree, and a residence at 5710 on Route 225, said Jackson Township police.

According to Chief Brink, Card and woman are believed to be in a relationship, and no motive has been determined at this time.1 of 4 family members charged after 16 children found in Ohio home released from custodyVIDEO: Canton man accused of stabbing girlfriend 15 times arrested after several police pursuits
