A Melbourne man has been charged following a horrific crash involving two vehicles and a truck near the Victoria-NSW border, which claimed the lives of five people.
A Melbourne man has been charged following a"catastrophic" crash near the Victoria-New South Wales border which claimed the lives of five people in the same car. at Strathmerton, roughly 250km north of Melbourne, on Thursday about 2.30pm.
The group were killed instantly when a Mercedes Sedan allegedly crashed into the Nissan Navara, consequently causing it to spin into the path of a fully loaded B-double milk tanker travelling along the Murray Valley Highway.At a media conference on Friday, police revealed the driver of the Mercedes Sedan was intercepted less than an hour earlier at 1.43pm along Labuan Road, where he was issued with an infringement notice for speeding.

Emergency services, including detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit and Disaster Victim Identification experts, worked through the night to investigate the incident. Assistant Commissioner Weir said the investigation was still in its earlier stages and expected to continue for sometime.
