According to the post-mortem report, all victims died due to gunshot wounds.
The High Court in Cape Town on Thursday sentenced a 27-year-old man to four life terms for murder and additional 10 years for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, Western Cape police said.
Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk said Adrian Leonard was sentenced for crimes he committed in Atlantis outside Cape Town in 2017. Van Wyk said Leonard and an unknown person approached the four victims and opened fire on them in what was believed as a gang-related shooting. “As a result of the shooting, a female aged 27 years and three males aged, 42, 24, and 21 died on the scene. The investigation was allocated to members of the provincial organised crime investigation office just after the occurrence,” Van Wyk said.A tracing operation in collaborating with provincial organised crime office and Atlantis police ensured the successful tracing and arrest of the accused a few weeks later.
Leonard is believed to be a member of a gang and the victims belonged to another rival gang. The provincial commissioner Lieutenant General KE Jula welcomed the outcome of the case and commended the investigation team for their commitment in tracing and apprehending a dangerous criminal.
