OTAY MESA, Calif. – A vehicle crash off state Route 905 in Otay Mesa early Monday morning left one person dead and another with serious injuries.
California Highway Patrol officers were called to an area off SR-905 near Heritage Road just after 12 a.m. due to reports of two people trapped in a BMW 435i. The car, for unknown reasons, veered off the eastbound lanes, crashed into a guardrail, and overturned in brush hundreds of feet from the road.According to CHP officials, a 19-year-old male passenger died from his injuries at the scene. The 19-year-old male driver, from National City, was taken to the hospital with major injuries.
CHP officials said, “Alcohol/and or drugs are not suspected to be a factor” and the “cause and sequence of events is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol San Diego Area.”
