PETALING JAYA: A 22-year-old Malaysian student has been charged with cigarette smuggling by the Australian Border Force (ABF) in Perth, Western Australia.
The spool, which was a consignment from China, was intercepted at an air cargo depot on Feb 29.
Following the discovery of additional 1,300 cigarettes at his house, the student was charged with two counts under the Customs Act 1901. According to Australian news portal PerthNow, the Malaysian has been released on bail and is scheduled to appear at the Perth Magistrates Court on March 27. "We'll be alleging that this man was planning to sell the cigarettes on social media platforms at a significant profit.
