KUALA LUMPUR: The relations between Malaysia and China have grown from strength to strength underpinned by the strong government-to-government (G to G) commitment and active private sector engagements, says Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.

The Foreign Minister said Kuala Lumpur-Beijing established diplomatic relations on May 31, 1974 and agreed to elevate the ties to Strategic Cooperation in 2004 and later to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2013.

"In this regard, we look forward to working closely with China in strengthening and consolidating further our bilateral relations,” he said in his speech during the 2023 Chinese New Year reception hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia here Monday night. China’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Ouyang Yujing, said China and Malaysia have been enjoying strong economic ties, adding that the trade volume in 2022 reached a historical height of US$203.6bil, increasing 15.6% on a year-on-year basis.
