PETALING JAYA: Malaysian shuttlers went down 2-3 to defending champions China in the quarter-finals of the Asian Mixed Team Championships on Friday (Feb 17).
Independent men's singles player and world No. 4 Lee Zii Jia gave the team a good start when he beat world No. 121 Lei Lanxi 21-16, 22-20 at the Dubai Exhibition Centre.
Independent men's doubles pair and world No. 8 Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi were edged 22-24, 18-21 by China's world No. 21 He Jiting-Zhao Haodong. Independent mixed doubles pair and world No. 6 Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing gave their all but could not prevent China's world No. 20 Feng Yanzhe-Huang Dongping from winning 21-15, 25-23 in the decisive fifth match.
