A new poll reveals that most Americans believe the U.S. does not need more foreign H-1B visa workers for white-collar jobs, citing concerns about fraud, abuse, and competition with American graduates.
A new poll reveals that a majority of likely American voters believe the United States does not require additional foreign H-1B visa workers for white-collar positions. 60% of Americans contend that the U.S. possesses sufficient talent to train and recruit for these roles, when asked about Congress potentially increasing the influx of foreign workers, primarily through the H-1B visa program. Only 26% of Americans support increasing the number of foreign visa workers filling white-collar jobs .
Republicans and independent voters, particularly, express that the U.S. has enough American talent for such roles and does not need more foreign visa workers. 72% of Republicans, 63% of swing voters, and 47% of Democrats agree that the U.S. has talented individuals who can be trained and recruited for available white-collar positions. The survey highlights concerns about fraud and abuse within the H-1B visa program, where American white-collar workers are allegedly laid off and compelled to train their foreign replacements. While corporations may lay off American workers in white-collar jobs to import foreign H-1B visa workers, hundreds of thousands of young, college-educated Americans enter the workforce annually, seeking entry-level positions with decent salaries. American graduates entering the STEM workforce seek high-paying jobs with comprehensive benefits packages. Their chances of securing such positions are significantly diminished by the annual influx of tens of thousands of foreign H-1B visa workers who directly compete against them in the white-collar labor market
