FILE - The House floor at the U.S. Capitol is seen in Washington, early Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023. saying the government is trying to do too many things that should be left to individuals and businesses.
This year’s survey results are in line with where they’ve been over the 30 years that Gallup has asked this question. The only time that a majority of Americans wanted the government to do more was during the onset of the pandemic in 2020. Meanwhile, Democrats have grown increasingly likely to want the government to do more, according to Gallup.
“And when you have the government doing things, then you have the government bothering people,” Belt said. “And when policies are passed, there's always someone's ox who gets gored.”
