More than a third of Democrats said they expected Trump to be re-elected.
In a new poll released Wednesday, voters were asked to put aside whom they plan to back in 2020 and focus instead on whether they thought Donald Trump will be re-elected president.The poll, by Politico and Morning Consult, was taken Nov. 1-3, before Tuesday’s elections yielded mixed results for Trump’s Republican Party. The GOP held on to the governor’s mansion in Mississippi, but Democrats took control of Virginia’s legislature.
It isn’t only Republicans who told the pollsters that they expect Trump to win another term in the Oval Office. More than a third of Democrats — 35% — said they expected him to be re-elected next year. Eighty-five percent of Republicans and 51% of independents said the same. The new survey can give Trump some comfort. Other recent polls are a different story, pointing to a nail-biter of a contest next year.
Trump leads Democratic White House hopeful Elizabeth Warren by an average of just two points in six battleground states, according to a New York Times Upshot and Siena College survey released Monday. Trump trails Joe Biden in those same key states by two points, and the president is about even with Bernie Sanders, the poll also found.The Politico-Morning Consult poll was taken Nov. 1-3 online among a national sample of 1,983 registered voters.
