A powerful winter storm has caused widespread disruptions across the US, dumping record-breaking snowfall in some areas and leading to school and government office closures, hundreds of accidents, and highway shutdowns.
A major winter storm slammed into the US, bringing heavy snow and ice to a vast swath of the country from the central plains to the East Coast. The storm dumped more than 6 feet of snow in some areas of upstate New York, while cities along the East Coast received their heaviest single-day snowfall in decades.Washington, DC, saw more than 5.5 inches, and Annapolis, Maryland, got around 7 inches, the most since 2000.
Cities in Delaware and southern New Jersey also saw record-breaking snowfall, with some areas receiving up to 9 inches. The storm led to widespread disruptions, including school and government office closures, hundreds of accidents, and the stranding of hundreds of motorists. Interstate highways in Kansas were shut down due to dangerous conditions, and Gov. Andy Beshear of Kentucky declared a state of emergency
