A winter storm is set to impact Texas, bringing snow and ice to the Dallas-Fort Worth area and heavy rain to Houston. Dangerous travel conditions are expected due to the winter storm in North Texas.
A major Texas winter storm is gearing up to push into western parts of the state late Wednesday night and increase into Friday morning. A Winter Storm Warning is now in place for the Dallas, Arlington and Fort Worth areas from Thursday morning through Noon Friday. This is where several inches of snow could fall along with a glaze of ice, creating dangerous travel for those driving in for the Cotton Bowl .
Farther south in the Houston area, waves of heavy rain will be likely throughout Thursday, especially Thursday night. Sleet may briefly mix with rain, but no icy or snowy roads are expected for the Houston area. Models are showing widespread one to three inch rain totals between Thursday and Friday morning with isolated higher amounts possible, especially near the coast. There's a low risk for street flooding stretching from Houston to Galveston, so make sure to turn around if you encounter any flooded roads. Rain should end by midday Friday, but chilly temperatures will stick around. Look for high temperatures Friday in the low 40s, with even colder weather Friday night as temperatures fall back to around freezing. The weather this weekend looks fairly quiet with temperatures warming to near 60 Sunday with only a 20% chance for rain.
