Eccles Old Road is set to be resurfaced and lose its bus lanes.
Major roadworks will start in Salford next month, causing disruption for six weeks near the city's hospital.
It includes the removal of existing bus lanes, drainage works, and new road markings, along a busy carriageway which sits between the A6 and Half Edge Lane, and travels between Pendleton and Salford Royal Hospital.Salford City Council today awarded a contract to a road surfacing firm set to carry out the work. The scheme is funded by the City Region Sustainable Transport Settlements programme, a government grant to improve transport networks in large cities.
He added: "From what I can see Salford council wants to build more active travel infrastructure, but the idea that resurfacing Eccles Old Road will improve active travel doesn't wash, it's almost gas lighting, it won't deliver the objectives of the CRSTS. Coun Mike McCusker, lead member for planning, transport and sustainable development at Salford City Council, said: "Local people and councillors have raised concerns about the condition of the road so we are addressing this.
