On Sunday morning, runners will compete in the half and full marathons. More than 18,000 runners from all 50 states and 25 countries are expected to pack the downtown area. The new "San Antonio Marathon" replaces the "Rock n' Roll" running series marathon which was a beloved race amongst many San Antonians.Event organizers say the new marathon will help solidify the city as a more serious competition destination. This new marathon will be a qualifier for the Boston marathon. You can't sign up to volunteer for this event but San Antonio Sports say they will need help with future events. Organizers say the new course highlights neighborhoods and landmarks across the city. Much of downtown will be closed for the big event, meaning traffic headaches. The race starts at 7:15 but the closures will begin much earlier, starting at 3 a.m. If you're trying to get down there for the race, there will be free parking at the Alamodome, lots B and C. The lots open at 5 a.m. or if you're getting a ride, there are two designated drop off areas. They are on Nueva Street and Flores, and Travis Street at Flores.
