Maine Township will host an International Day festival with music, dance, food and entertainment Sept. 30.
International Fest is coming to Maine Township Saturday, offering entertainment, food, children’s activities and vendor booths in a celebratory atmosphere.
The festival, complete with pretend passports for children to get stamped when they visit different booths representing different cultures, showcases traditional music and dance, art, food and drink from Poland, Korea, Pakistan, India, the Philippines and Mexico.“These ethnic groups were chosen because most of the recent immigrants to our township came from these countries,” said Martin McAlpin, a communications representative for Maine Township.
The event, hosted by Maine Township, is set for Sept. 30, and will take place at the township’s parking lot in Park Ridge from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Maine Township officials said that the celebration will highlight the rich cultural diversity in the area.Zespol Juchashi, Tana Dance and the SamaSama Project will be taking the stage to perform cultural dances and music. The festival will include henna hand decorating, a Taekwondo demonstration, and folk bands for entertainment.
