A Maine school board reinstated a transgender protection policy Thursday, two months after voting to remove it in June.

Created in 2018, RSU 40’s transgender and gender expansive policy allowed students to use the bathroom that most aligns with their identity. It also ensures they are called by their chosen name and pronoun. “These are not monumental acts, just baseline that the district embraces the dignity of every child,” Washington resident Rev. Benjamin Perry said.
