MailOnline's Liberty Smith took to the streets of London to find out the public's reaction to the new portrait of King Charles, unveiled yesterday.
King Charles's new portrait, unveiled on Tuesday, is nothing if not striking thanks to its scarlet hue.
It depicts His Majesty wearing the uniform of the Welsh Guards, of which he was made Regimental Colonel in 1975. The painting proved divisive even amongst committed royal fans. While the man on the left called the portrait 'magnificent', the man on the right admitted that he didn't like it at all Wearing a T-shirt printed with the King's face and a hat accessorised with a number of badges featuring Charles and Camilla, the man in question, who was perhaps in his early 60s, called the portrait 'magnificent'.
‘The King stands out magnificently in that portrait. It’s like he’s on his own, in his thoughts.' He added: 'I wish I could take it home with me'. Another person we spoke to, who was also slightly older, was much less complimentary. 'I don't like it at all', he said, explaining that, in his view, the use of red obscured the King.People of a similar age seemed equally sceptical of the portrait, with one man sharing that he thought it was simply 'a bit too modern'.
