The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology recorded a 5.0-magnitude earthquake in Davao Oriental on Sunday morning, Jan. 8.Its instruments recorded the tremor at Intensity II in Nabunturanm Davao de Oro and Intensity I in Malapatan and Alabel, Sarangani; Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental; and General Santos City.
The earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
