PATTERSON – A magnitude 4.4 earthquake hit Monday night near Patterson, and was felt throughout the Bay Area, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The temblor struck at 9:13 p.m. roughly nine miles west-southwest of Patterson at a depth of 1.2 miles, the USGSA shake report on the USGS website showed the quake was felt throughout the Bay Area, including San Jose, San Francisco and Oakland, as well as in Santa Cruz and Merced.The temblor was preceded by two others in the same area Monday – a magnitude 4.0 around 5:15 p.m. and a magnitude 3.6 around 8:45 p.m., according to the USGS. The magnitude 4.4 earthquake was followed by a magnitude 3.
