The Washington Emergency Management Division said the earthquake was big enough to be felt in southwest Washington.

SALEM, Ore. — A magnitude 4.4 earthquake near Salem, Oregon, was felt by people in Washington early Friday.“The earthquake was technically big enough to trigger part of the United States Geological Survey ShakeAlert system. But it didn’t meet the threshold to give phone notices. A 4.5 earthquake could have given a notice on the MyShake App,” the Washington Emergency Management Division said in a tweet.As of 10 a.m.

, 4,400 people had reported feeling the quake. Some people in the Kalama, Washington area reported that they felt the shaking.The ShakeAlert Earthquake Early Warning system is available for all mobile phones in Washington. It may provide seconds of warning to protect yourself before the shaking begins. Alerts are available through your Android phone’s built-in software, the Wireless Emergency Alert system on all phones, or on the MyShake App.
