Playing in a loud, rambunctious, sold-out gym, the Jaguars showed why they are ranked No. 2 in this week’s cleveland.com girls volleyball Top 20.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Whenever St. Joseph Academy and Magnificat get together for an athletic competition, a rock-em, sock-em affair can be expected.
Such was the case Tuesday night when the volleyball teams got together for their annual rivalry battle at St. Joseph Academy. Playing in a loud, rambunctious, sold-out gym, the Jaguars showed why they are ranked No. 2 inrankings, taking down the No. 3 Blue Streaks by scores of 25-15, 25-21, 19-25 and 25-15. SJA is now 15-4, while Magnificat falls to 10-7.
“Our fans really showed up and showed out tonight,” said junior standout Belle Groomes, who led all players with 20 kills. “It feels great. I love playing because each team is always going to bring their A game. Everybody is just going to bring everything they’ve got. This is the most thrilling game of all season.”
