Although Magic Mike's Last Dance had a slump on Sunday because of the Super Bowl, it makes up for that with a tremendous Valentine's Day turnout.
Magic Mike's Last Dance overperformed at the box office on Valentine's Day, making up for a slightly underwhelming opening. The film is the third outing in the franchise, which began with 2012's Magic Mike and continued with 2015's Magic Mike XXL. It follows male stripper Mike as he meets a new love interest named Maxandra who takes him to London where they mount a dance show.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Per Deadline, the No. 1 highest-performing film on Valentine's Day this Tuesday was the weekend leader Magic Mike's Last Dance. It made $1.93 million that day, bringing its cumulative five-day domestic total to $11 million. This is a huge turnaround from its sleepy opening weekend of $8.3 million and nearly doubles the film's take of $1.03 million on Super Bowl Sunday.
This Valentine's Day total at least brings Magic Mike's Last Dance a lot closer to the opening weekend gross of Magic Mike XXL. The original sequel only made $12.9 million in its opening weekend. However, both films pale in comparison to the original, which opened to the tune of $39.1 million off the promise of several popular stars strutting their stuff onstage.
This Valentine's Day result shows that Magic Mike's Last Dance still has gas in the tank though, especially as a date movie. That designation may help save it during the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania this weekend. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe film will of course take No. 1, the Magic Mike film could potentially hold strong at No. 2 as a bit of counter-programming as a date option for couples that don't love Marvel.
