Only one of the Commanders’ new limited partners is a five-time NBA champion and three-time MVP. He shared some of what it takes to reach those heights with his players.
For about 30 minutes Wednesday, NBA legend and new Commanders limited partner Earvin “Magic” Johnson stood at the front of the team’s meeting room in Ashburn for some season-opening motivation.
The visit left tackle Alex Akingbulu a bit star struck. Born in Los Angeles, Akingbulu grew up a die-hard Lakers fan, and though he was born just after Johnson“He has a lot of knowledge about so many different things and even about business, too,” Akingbulu said. “He talked about little business things, too. So just like, man, this is a blessing to have someone like that.
“And that was probably one of the more important messages. I really appreciated that. Just listening to him talk to the guys about how successful he is, and you understand why just because of who he is.”Wide receiver Terry McLaurin met Johnson at the ownership group’s introductory news conference earlier in the summer, and he hopes to have more meetings with him in the future.
