Dame Maggie Smith has died after seven legendary decades in film and TV, during which she won two Oscars, four Emmys and more
Smith's sons Chris Larkin and Toby Stephens confirmed the news on Friday, September 27.
They concluded: We thank you for all your kind messages and support and ask that you respect our privacy at this time.' That same year, Smith was honored by Queen Elizabeth II for her “contribution to the arts,” with the monarch bestowing her with the title of dame.
