Baguio City Benjamin Magalong said Sen. Panfilo Lacson’s tenure as Philippine National Police chief from 1999 to 2001 proved that an official could govern a national organization without falling to corruption or compromising their principles. | onenewsph

Sen. Panfilo Lacson and Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong flank an unidentified supporter during a recent visit by the Partido Reporma standard-bearer to the city’s command center.

And the three-term senator’s type of governance is one that can be duplicated, as Magalong himself has proven since becoming mayor of the Philippines’ summer capital in 2019, he explained to “Balitang Sapolitika” earlier this week. “The reason why I am this kind of person is because someone when I was in the PNP. When I was serving under him, has so much influence in the way I think, in the way I govern, in the way I manage – and that’s Senator Panfilo Lacson,” Magalong said, noting that Lacson has all the qualities of a true leader.

Magalong is running for reelection under the Nationalist People’s Coalition – the party of Lacson’s running mate Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III – and vowed to continue the Lacson brand of governance “because it’s all about consistency, it’s all about conviction, it’s all about commitment.”

“I look at the presidency as a sacrifice. I have already served the public well. But I see the country still faces humongous problems and I feel I can help given my track record," Lacson said in Filipino at"The Jessica Soho Presidential Interviews" on"It would be a waste if I did not offer my experience to the people. I think I can do something to help, that's why I decided to run)," he said.

When asked during the program what was his prized possession, Lacson replied that it was his integrity, which he said he has nurtured throughout his life - including more than 50 years in public service, as a law enforcer and as a lawmaker.
