Far-right GOP lawmakers are trying to thwart the House speaker’s compromise on aid to the two countries.
As hundreds of Iranian missiles and drones rained down on Israel this weekend, some far-right lawmakers saw an opportunity to use the attack to accomplish a separate goal: further delay U.S. aid to Ukraine — hurting both Israel and Ukraine in the process.to address the need for emergency supplemental funding for Ukraine, Israel and the Indo-Pacific. He is declining to simply call a vote on the Senate-passed, which would easily pass the House and reach President Biden’s desk immediately.
On Sunday, these MAGA lawmakers went public with their push to shelve Ukraine aid. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene , who opposes any aid to Ukraine,There’s a lot wrong with these statements. Passing the bills together doesn’t amount to “conditioning” the Israel aid — and it wouldn’t be “antisemitic” if it did. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is Jewish, not a Nazi. And Gaetz seems not to realize that the Iranians are also helping Russia attack Ukraine.
This is not the first time far-right GOP lawmakers have tried to use Israel as an excuse to delay passing aid to Ukraine. In November,pushed through an Israel-only funding bill that ignored Ukraine, but the Senate didn’t take it up. He tried again in February to pass aid for Israel only, but failed. Interestingly, Greene voted no on the aid for Israel. That didn’t stop her from invoking Israel’s security to argue for a delay in Ukraine aid again this week.

Turkish nationals and companies have been gradually cancelling sales and orders with Israel, while trade is mostly with private firms, including some international ones, rather than state enterprises. Goods sent from Türkiye to Palestine pass through Israel and its customs gates due to Palestine's lack of its own customs facilities. Goods destined for Palestine are required to be labelled for Israel or include the phrase "via Israel." In addition, Israel does not recognise legal relations between Palestine and third countries, while it refuses to allow commercial transactions through the Rafah Border Crossing with Egypt. As a result, trade between third countries and Palestine is logged overwhelmingly as trade with Israel in data reflected in national statistics.
