The Venezuelan government is seeking to arrest political opponents after an attempted uprising failed to oust the country’s autocratic leader
Venezuela’s government began going after opposition leaders on Thursday who it accused of planning a military uprising to oust autocrat Nicolás Maduro, ordering several of them arrested—including the vice president of the National Assembly—as antigovernment protests died down.
Two days after the failed insurrection, a Caracas court ordered Leopoldo López to be jailed in the notorious Ramo Verde military prison, where he spent 3½ years before being remanded to house arrest in 2017.
