Sidewalk dining, a popular pastime in Seattle, is now the subject of a fight in Madison Park.
Neighbors in Triangle Park in Madison Park argue this is a public space , not to be used by the neighboring restaurant How to Cook a Wolf. This photo was taken on Aug. 15, 2024. The Ethan Stowell restaurant group has been using a small parcel of land for outdoor dining that some neighbors say is not the intended use of that space.
Stowell’s restaurant group applied for a permit to make the space a permanent outdoor dining space about three years ago, but the permitting process is still incomplete. Then, in 2023, the city said cited the restaurant group for installing structure without a permit, then applying for a permit, which was approved for less area than they had already installed.
