Tributes have poured in following her death
The death of Sheffield United player Maddy Cusack is not being treated as suspicious, police have said. The 27-year-old midfielder, who started her career at Nottingham Forest, died last Wednesday, September 20.
"Her death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file is being prepared for the coroner," they said in a statement. Tributes poured in for the player after her death was announced.Nottingham Forest said in a statement: "We are deeply saddened to learn the passing of Maddy Cusack. Maddy played for Forest during her time at our academy. Our thoughts go out to her friends, family and everyone at Sheffield United at this truly difficult time.
"There will forever be a void in the hearts of everyone connected to the club & a number of activities have been planned to remember her," the club wrote ahead of the fixture. Men's team manager Paul Heckingbottom, said United were "suffering" after her death.
