Macy’s Riverchase Galleria location, its last store in Alabama, is for sale

The store is listed as having 225,763 square feet of space.

FILE - A Macy's department store is in Bay Shore, Long Island, New York, on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023. comes after the retailer posted a fourth-quarter loss last year and declining sales. While it has not identified the locations that will be closed, it described them as “underproductive.”

The closures would leave the company with 350 Macy’s stores. The retailer plans to open 15 high-end Bloomingdale’s stores and 30 Blue Mercury cosmetic locations.Macy’s said in a statement that a final decision on specific locations to be closed has not yet been made. The New York-based retail chain is currently evaluating the value of the property in comparison to future sales profitability potential.
