French President Emmanuel Macron has described as 'ridiculous' the accusations made by the Russian defense minister that Ukraine and France had a role in the recent attack on a concert hall in Moscow. Macron's comments came a day after an unusual phone call between the defense ministers of France and Russia, after which the two countries issued separate statements. The Russian Defense Ministry's statement quoted Minister Sergei Shoigu telling his French counterpart that 'the Kiev regime does nothing without the approval of its Western masters' and 'we hope that the French special services have not been involved'. Macron stated that such claims 'were actually baroque and threatening, which is nothing new'. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event to inaugurate a swimming pool built for the upcoming Paris Olympics, Macron added, 'In other words, it was ridiculous'.
