The deal allegedly involved cash bribes and a luxury watch.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission arrested two senior managers to assist in the investigation of the takeover of the KL Tower concession.

The government owns KL Tower, but the operations and maintenance of the building have been handled on contract by Telekom Malaysia subsidiary, Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd , since 1996. However, it was recently made known that the building had been sold to an unknown company called Hydroshoppe Sdn Bhd.

The two senior managers, aged 49 and 59, have Datuk titles, and were arrested at the MACC headquarters on 6 January 2023 after giving their statements, Free Malaysia Today reported.According to The Edge, it’s suspected that the selection of the company concerned to takeover the KL Tower concession involved a request for a cash bribe amounting to hundreds of thousands of ringgit and a luxury watch as a gift to the ‘superior.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the case is being investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009.
