Published: 3 minutes agoSouthern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd canceled its concert scheduled for Tuesday evening at Anchorage’s Sullivan Arena.
A message posted to the band’s social media accounts said “early this morning, Johnny Van Zant was informed his daughter must undergo emergency surgery. Johnny has asked all fans to pray for a successful procedure and recovery.” Van Zant has been the band’s lead vocalist since 1987. He is the brother of Ronnie Van Zant, who was the band’s vocalist from its founding in the mid-1960s until his death in the 1977 plane crash that killed other band personnel.The message said all ticket holders would receive directions on how to receive a refund. It also said any information tied to upcoming appearances would be announced in coming days.
The show was titled “Lynyrd Skynyrd: Celebrating 50 Years,” and while the band that formed in Florida had produced numerous rock classics over the years, no members of the original lineup are still alive. Founding guitarist Gary Rossington, who died last year, was the last surviving original member.
