After nearly 40 years in the Pacific Heights Residents Association, Lynne Newhouse Segal sees plenty of work left to do
A nearly 40-year member of a Pacific Heights neighborhood organization is helping the group chart its future course with an eye on involving subsequent generations.
Segal said that some attendees at the event usually come with pointed questions as they’re at odds with speakers over certain policies. Despite the differences, elected officials have been accommodating with their attendance, and Segal said they try to get as candid as possible with their responses. Among her preservation efforts in the neighborhood, Segal worked to save the former Newcomer School property at 2340 Jackson St. when it was slated for closure over 20 years ago. The property was penciled in for City College of San Francisco, but neighborhood residents pushed back as they said they didn’t think college students would want to attend a campus that hadn’t been designed with ample parking in mind.
Scott described Segal as someone who “understands what needs to happen to make the neighborhood work and be a positive place for everybody.”
