Lyft's Chief Policy Officer Anthony Foxx is stepping down

He's being replaced by his number two, Jeremy Bird, also a former Obama official.Anthony Foxx, Lyft's chief policy officer and a close advisor to its CEO, is stepping down, according to an email obtained by Insider. He's officially leaving at the beginning of next year but plans to stay on after as an advisor to the company.

Foxx joined Lyft in 2018 after serving as the secretary of transportation under President Obama. He was previously the mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina. Foxx is being replaced at Lyft by his lieutenant Jeremy Bird, another alumni of the Obama administration. In an statement to Insider, Foxx said the move came at the right time for him."I worked hard to build the absolute best policy team in business. There's really no other team like us. That's really what I came to do, and I could not be more proud of our people or have more confidence in Lyft going forward," he said."I can now feel good about transitioning the team while continuing to advise Lyft.

Under Foxx, Lyft has had to navigate a fraught regulatory environment for ride hailing companies. It won a significant political victory last year when voters in California passed Prop 22. That gave Lyft, along with other gig worker companies, the freedom to classify their drivers as workers rather than full employees. Currently the companies are pushing for similar legislation in states like Massachusetts.
