The 'luxury' glamping domes would 'create a significant economic benefit to the surrounding area', the application has claimed.
A glamping site could be created near the listed Caldwell Tower to provide “countryside accommodation for tourists”.
The applicant, Jeff Askew, wants to install three “luxury glamping domes” for guests, with income used to “maintain and upkeep the tower”.His application stated: “The proposed glamping site will provide subtle and discreet countryside accommodation for tourists visiting this area’s attractions on short breaks and weekend stays.
“The site is situated within the existing woodland meaning it is out of sight and does not harm any views of the tower or surrounding area.”The privately-owned, 16th century tower would be maintained to “an appropriate standard through the use of income from the application site”. No guests would be allowed “in or around the tower, however, they can view this from around the site”. The application stated the domes will be “well spaced” to “give each visitor a good amount of privacy”.
